This website is the portal of the Ambassador Platform for Environmental Risks & Hazards in the Mediterranean Region (ERHM) of ESA’s Integrated Applications Promotion (IAP) Programme. It is hosted by the Pôle Risques (Gestion des Risques et Vulnérabilités des Territoires, France) .

The overarching objective of this Ambassador Platform, managed by Pôle Risques, is to assist the IAP programme in spreading awareness for stakeholders, along the value chain of potential services in the domain of environmental risks and hazards. Especially targeted are those stakeholders who are not part of the traditional space community, but may be interested in partnering with ESA to find solutions for their operational gaps and relevant user-driven services in this domain, enabled by the added value of space assets.

Growing public concern about the human and economic impacts of major disasters has led several national and international stakeholders to take new initiatives to support disaster management. This domain requires a cross-multidisciplinary approach involving a wide range of assets, both space and terrestrial, supported by applications that process and integrate very diverse data towards yielding operational solutions and services.

To pave the way for new innovative and effective services, it is of paramount importance to gain an accurate understanding of disaster management communities, their requirements, resources and partnerships. This knowledge will assist the IAP programme to better target the need of this community and the space industry in its Member States to maximise the use of current space resources and identify requirements for future services.
