1st October 2008 - ESTEC, Noordwijk
Following the recommendations of the workshop on “Operational Risk Maps for Communicable Diseases using Integrated Space and Non space Assets” that DG-SANCO, CNES, the partners of the EDEN project and ESA organised in October 2007, the ESA IAP team has since then further investigated two main topics related to vector-borne diseases, one of which being the topic for this workshop.
Mosquitoes are vectors for several diseases (West Nile Fever, Chikungunya or Dengue). Such diseases are an increasing public health concern in many European countries (France, UK, Italy, Belgium, Netherlands, Switzerland and Spain to name a few).
This workshop will look into the occurrence and predictive mapping of a disease vector (species distribution and spreading, with a view to recommend a feasibility study on this topic and to define its scope.
